Creating a good concept, is the key to creating a good creature.
The first and most important thing you need to do when creating a monster is have an idea in your head of what the monster does, looks like, sounds like, even smells like. You need to have some idea of what makes this creature different from other creatures.
You can start off with only a basic concept, one or two features, a sentence, or a half page draft. You should be aware tha as you go your creation may change, sometimes because you think of a better idea, othertimes because you decide what you started with just doesn't fit for whatever reasons.
As we work through this course I'll keep referring to two different example creatures. These will be detailed at the bottom of most pages and try to illustrate different features of what we've just discussed.
Example 1: I'm going to create a purple ooze, a brilliantly intelligent and good ooze with an aversion to vermin and a desire to make the world a cleaner and better place to live in. Funky!
Example 2: Our second example will be an extremely tall, thin, muscular humanoid, with three arms, 15 toes on each foot, no nose, really bad body odour and the brains of a small child. He loves sticking things with javelins and bows from a distance.
