Choose which of
the following you need help with:
I don't know how to create a
monster
First things first - go get the creature creation
guidelines, also known as "How to Create
a Monster". Then read it and come back. Download
HERE
Secondly - read the monster manual.
Thirdly, have a look at my Monster Creation 101
course above.
If you need more help come along to the Creature
Catalog forums at ENWORLD. I go there a lot
as do many other wonderful people who are always
willing to help.
Helpful Formula
For monsters below 20HD you can use the table
3-1 in the Players Handbook to work out saves
and attack bonuses. However for monsters over
20HD here are a couple of useful formula I've
come across while I've been making monsters:
- Low Base Save = HD/3 (rounded down)
- High (or Good) Base Save = 2 + HD/2 (rounded
down)
- Base Attack Bonus = HD*3/4 (again, rounded
down)
- Save DC for a special attack = 10 + HD/2 +
relevant ability modifier
- Save DC for spell like ability = 10 + (HD
or Caster Level is specified) + charisma modifier
Calculating Challenge Rating - Scott Greene at
the Creature
Catalog has posted a rough 'guesstimator'
for calculating CR. Its also included in the above
'How to..' PDF.

I don't know how to submit a
monster or template
If you mean you can't find the page then... err...
click on the button above which says "Add
Creature"!
If you mean your not sure about the format then
you should try following the format as laid down
in the monster manual.
Also try clicking on the help icons next to each
field on the add pages.
If you're still not sure then check out one of
the monsters on here or one in the monster manual
and just copy its format (although this is a good
way to make transposition errors by forgetting
to change something)
I don't understand this whole
License Thing
OK, here are the 3 major points as I see it (someone
correct me if I'm wrong)
1. You can use anything published under
the Open Gaming License (OGL) to create other
things. Everything that Wizard of the Coast have
published under the OGL is included in their System
Reference Document (SRD) at www.opengamingfoundation.org
e.g. You can refer to the feat Cleave
as this is in the SRD above, but you could not
refer to a feat included in say Sword and Fist
accessory as this is not in the SRD and hence
not OGL content. You also cannot refer to things
which might be in say the Players Handbook but
which are not in the SRD.
2. Anything you create using these rules
must also be published under the OGL. The creatures
stats and 'game system' specific stuff you create
and publish here MUST be published under the OGL.
e.g. Because your monster has ability scores,
hit dice, armor class etc as defined in the SRD
as being Open Gaming Content your work is therefore
a 'Derivative' of this content. So basically the
stats become open gaming content also.
3. Things you add to your creation which
do not use the rules you can claim as being
not published under the OGL. To be excluded from
the OGL they MUST be specifically identified.
e.g. This can include anything from the name
of your creature, the background of the creature,
its lifestyle etc (basically if you made it up
its yours). Things that include references to
game mechanics however (special abilities and
combat tactics for example) cannot be marked as
yours.
These 3 points are what I see as the major points
and are presented only to try to help people understand
the license a bit. They do not supercede the license
or replace it in anyway. Oh, and IANAL!
I've entered my creature but
I got something wrong. How do I change it?
You should have received an email when you added
the creature. Otherwise go to the Edit
Creature page and all your creatures will
be emailed to you, along with instructions on
how to edit them.
Are there any programs
that will do all the hard work for me?
Yeah sure, try HERE
