A stoneman is a 15-16 foot tall three ton humanoid of solid rock, with small white eyes. The Stonemen of Ulak'Bel are not extremely territorial, but they maintain strict order within their dimly lit halls and fortresses. If a formation of Stonemen comes across any goblinoids they will not hesitate to slaughter them systematically. Fighting is so natural to Stonemen it is like a bodily function. Thus many stonemen develop their talents in the fighter class. The rulers of the stonemen are usually high level fighter/clerics, with access to the Earth and Law domains. Young stonemen (under 14 ft. tall) are sent to the mines and forges to build their strength before taking on the rigorous training regimen of the stoneman military. Stonemen on patrol are often armed with Huge morningstars and 50% wear steel fullplate, which reduces their speed to 15 ft.
On area patrols, stonemen take prisoners if they encounter non-hostile creatures. These creatures often wait in the secure dungeons of the Ulak'Bel for years, lost in the complex legal system of the Stonemen. Upon the review of their case the prisoners may be released to others of their own kind, or inducted into slave-labor. For Small or Medium-size humanoids, slavery consists of fine crafting that the stonemen's hands are not suited for. Slaves are cared for and treated as valuable property, and any stonemen who are ever violent to them without due cause are themselves incarcerated.
In combat Stonemen usually advance into melee combat without breaking formation, absorbing the enemies missile attacks as necessary. They will bull-rush or grapple their foes to gain the upper hand.
Infrequently the stonemen have been known to trade with and even battle alongside dwarves, whom they grudgingly respect as creatures of the earth.
