In the Eocene forests 49 million years ago lived a predator like no other. Ambulocetus, the "walking whale". They were effecient hunters. Where the Ambulocetus lived, was a world where birds eat horses. Ambulocetus hence could not become top predator. Instead, when they lived in lakes, they became hunters of Leptictidium, a small jumping mammal. The Leptictidium where supreme agile creatures that mostly escaped the Ambulocetus, but the future held a different fate. Leptictidium and their king were destined to become extinct, when the forest they lived in became cooler amd drier. Ambulocetus is the one with the big future. They are the ancestor of the whales, the most magnificent dynasty of mammals. And mammals are about to take over the world.
