Climate TemplateThe climate template is a way to turn any monster into one that lives in a different climate. Skin color may change, as with other cosmetic features. A fire troll for example may have red or orange skin with wavy, fiery hair and resistance to fire. Any other trait can be added to it, but be logical, a fire troll would not have water breathing. But it may have a breath weapon. Also, some templated creatures may have only small differences. A desert troll would most likely have yellowish skin and be tougher than standard trolls. This template also applies to creatures from other planes and elemental creatures. A shadow elf would have gray skin…
Creating A Climate TemplateThis template can be added to anything. Sub-types may change though, instead of fire, it may be changed to earth. Also, a creature will be changed into an outsider if the climate is from another plane.
Hit Dice: If in a rough area, such as a desert, it would be increased. In an area that is not as rough, it may be decreased. Size: May be increased or decreased. Such as a desert troll may be smaller than its brethren. It is really up to the creator. Initiative: If in an area with endurance is key, it will be increased. If not, it could be slowed Speed: If in an area with endurance is key, it will be increased. If not, it could be slowed AC: If in an area with endurance is key, it will be increased. If not, it could be slowed Attacks: Fairly the same. It could differ from place to place. Damage: Fairly the same. It could differ from place to place. Face: Changes along with size Special Attacks: Be logical with this. It only applies if the creature is in such a radically different terrain it has too have new or changed special qualities. This obviously applies to elemental creatures. If you move a troll to a fire troll it will have new special qualities or attacks of the fire sub-type. Such as fire resistance and possibly a breath weapon. It is up to the DM’s discretion.
Special Qualities: Be logical with this.
Saves: All depends upon the climate. A desert creature for example would most likely have a higher fortitude save. Abilities: Use your head. A creature that lives in the desert for example would most likely have a high constitution score. Skills: A creature that has a mountainous region would have skills and feats of that type of place, for example of course.
Feats: A creature that has a mountainous region would have skills and feats of that type of place, for example of course.
Climate: Changed of course. Orgranisation: Up to DM’s discretion. CR: If the base creature gained 1-2 new qualities, keep it the same, if gain of 3 or more increase it by one, for each 2 qualities after that increase the challenge rating by one for each two new special attacks and qualities.
Treasure: Could be changed. Alignment: Up to the DM’s discretion. Advancement: Up to the DM’s discretion.
Notes: I think I explained enough in the beggining.
